Sam Berns -at the time of the recording of this video – is a 17 year old high school student with a debilitating disease called Progeria. Here, at only 17! Sam shares his philosophy for Living a Happy Life which include simple steps that can help us all and really do work. The whole video is worth watching – You will be Inspired, Amazed and in Awe!
Applying Sam’s Principles
If you literally take a month or two to actively implement each one of Sam’s 3 philosophies (one at a time) into your life, you will up your happiness factor considerably:
Be okay with what you ultimately can’t do,
because there is so much you CAN do
In a nutshell, focus on what you can do and spend your time, thoughts, and efforts in these areas rather than wasting time on things that will never bring you happiness and enjoyment. Sam really puts this into perspective by evaluating what is possible for him, and then applying himself to those tasks and figuring out how to make them work even when they are challenging. He plugs along until he gets them implemented, solved, and-or sorted. And each time he succeeds in this, it adds to his overall happiness.
Surround Yourself with People You want to Be Around
The power of this in your life cannot be over emphasized. At times, we all come across or have to spend time with people we’d rather not – people that are negative, people that are drama queens or manipulative, people we just don’t gel with, etc etc in our work or school or family or when we are out and about. That is just part of life. But where we have the ability to minimize this contact or in the instances we can completely control who we want to be around – then we should only include the people we want to be with and who want to be with us.
As Sam said about his friends, family and mentors – “we enjoy each other’s company”, “we see each other for who we are on the inside” and these people “provide the real positive influences in my life”. Surrounding ourselves as much as we possibly can with only these kind of people will positively impact our lives in a massive way and pay us real dividends when it comes to the quality of happiness in our lives.
Keep Moving Forward
Always have something in your life that you look forward to and are moving towards. When you don’t, that is when life can feel stuck, hopeless, and without purpose. When stagnation sets in or difficult times arise, if there isn’t at least one thing (more than one is better) that you have to look forward to which, is a real positive in your life, then it can be harder to keep perspective and things have a greater probability of taking a nosedive.
When you are working towards the positive things you want in life and filling up your time as much as you can with things you look forward to, that adds immensely to your overall sense of well-being and day-to-day happiness. It is clear that Sam, at 17! has learned and applied principles to his life that has made him a happy person despite the great adversity he’s faced and continues to face due to his condition. Here he shares his pearls of wisdom – pearls that so many people never learn even with being blessed with long-healthy lives. The key though isn’t just to learn these steps ourselves (How Make Real Positive Changes In Your Life – coming soon). The key is to apply and integrate them into our own lives (How To Transform Your Life For The Better, Right Now!). That is where the real benefit comes in – making our own lives better, and as a knock-on effect, the lives of those that we surround ourselves and even the world at large as well.
