Here’s How To Be On Trend and Up To Date EVERY Season – you’ll be surprised at just how much of what you need, you already have!
Okay. Fashion is always moving forward, with new trends, looks and items which would be sooooo nice to add to our wardrobe. But it gets expensive. This is the Life Hack which will allow you to ALWAYS look up to date without having the spend a dime – that is, unless you want to. Here’s How:
Collect Full-Length Photos of Current Styles You Like that will Suit You
At the Beginning of each new season, go through magazine, catalog and online (these are free) photos of this season’s looks. (Sidebar – It is best to use ads, celebrity photos and catalog photos for this exercise rather than fashion editorials. This is because fashion editorials are usually trying to illustrate a trend in only a few pages so they overdo it; looks are often impractical and unwearable; or they are just trying to be ultra artsy. So unless you want to look like an abstract Picasso which would be better suited to a wall than your body in most cases, steer clear of editorials as they rarely show you how to dress well. Fashion ads, however, usually show you looks that will look good on you and function in real life. Why? – because they want to sell you things you will want to wear.)
Next, pick out and save a collection of photos of ENTIRE looks that you like. This is head to toe stuff – not just photos of one or two items.
Put Together Each Look You’ve Found with What you Already Have in your Wardrobe
Once you have all your photos, take each photo and go through your clothes, shoes and accessories, pulling out any items you will need to make that Look happen. This doesn’t mean you will have exact matches. What you are doing is picking similar items to your picture that go together – i.e. a pair of flats, a long necklace, a tailored shirt, a slim cut jacket, etc. The point is to build the overall LOOK you are trying to get – colors don’t have to match the picture, the articles you choose from your closet just have to go well together. By the time you are finished doing this step, you will be on trend with this season’s looks. Chances are, you will probably already have either all or most of the items you need to get each LOOK you want.
Rinse and Repeat
Do this with each photo you have, and put together as many looks as you can.
Final Step
Then very important! – try on each completed Look, and do any necessary outfit TWEAKING (Secrets on How To Make your Outfits look their Very Best on You – coming soon) until everything looks right. For the outfits that pass the Try On and Tweak tests, catalog (take a selfie) and categorize (work, casual, evening, etc) them so they are easy to remember and replicate.
Once you have 10 to 20 new looks completed, you’ll be ready for current fashion season. Along with last year’s looks (they haven’t gone completely out of fashion yet), your wardrobe will be up to date and you will be prepared for when the weather ushers in fashion’s next big change.
I do this every season, and it saves me so much money. I get compliments almost every time I go out. I know people think I spend a fortune on my wardrobe (How To Build a Wardrobe that will Always Keep You Fashion Current – coming soon) because it always looks like I’ve just bought new stuff. I can’t tell you the number of times I get asked, “Is that new?” – It’s a lot! I just smile or answer, “Nope, had it for ages”. This tip really does work.
Anything missing?
You may decide that there are just a few items that would complete some of the ‘New’ Looks you are going for that you just don’t have. So, check with friends first before you go to the shops to see if there is any swapping to be done. If not, then your list (do make a list) of items to buy (How to dress like a Millionaire on any budget – coming soon) should be small when you do hit the shops! And with Selfies of your ‘New’ Looks always at hand, finding just the right items when you are shopping will be sooo much easier too!
